Simulation Model Of The Transmission Network Around Karachi

SCADA and Synchrophasor technologies are used to monitor the operating conditions of the grid and perform real time operations of monitoring and control of electricity. Grid monitoring becomes more meaningful if along with the grid operating parameters, associated geographical attributes are also displayed. Such a system will help utility companies in prompt decision making to avoid wide area power system problems. Information Visualization Group at Electrical Engineering Department has developed a simulation model of the transmission network around Karachi. Have a look!

Four Dimensional Wigner Distribution

The use of Joint Time Frequency tools for higher dimension signals has been restricted due to our ability to visualize and infer from more than a three-dimensional space. Now, Information Visualization Group (IVG) at Department of Electrical Engineering is being innovational in taking our view beyond 3D. Check out this simulation from a Four Dimensional Wigner Distribution -displaying time, frequency, lag and Doppler parameters all at once!

Smart Grid Group (SGG)

Synchrophasor Based High Speed Power Systems Data Acquisition

Synchrophasor Technology has enabled wide area power systems data acquisition at high speeds. The Smart Grid Group (SGG) at NED University is taking the lead in designing and developing Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) as per IEEE standards. Enjoy a sample device output which is reporting real-time Phasor, Symmetrical Components, Frequency deviation from Nominal frequency as well as the rate of change in system frequency in an event of disturbance.
